Spent these few nights and today (my off day!) watching an old horror film; Sweet Home (1989). This movie was released simultaneously with the same titled Nintendo game, which apparently sprouted the concept of "survival horror" among games we see now. One of the more prominent examples would be the popular Resident Evil series.

Personal rating: 3.8 / 5.0 stars

Although based on the game itself, I must point out that the storyline was very much different. So do the graphics (but of course XD). Unlike the pixels in the game, more realistic images were painted in the movie, making it all the more scarier and more fitting to the genre "survival horror". Specifically speaking, the gory in the movie was sophisticatedly done to portray the theme.

However, the suspense created in the movie was not enough nor consistent. A good attempt, though, if not for the many long and boring conversations in between. Climaxes were far and between, and happened too fast to produce impact. The ending was also a tad too short and lacked surprise.

All in all, for a horror film, Sweet Home was original and terrifying enough for the general crowd to watch. Not for the faint-hearted, though.
